One test, start to finish

Six stages. Compose covers every one of them, so you never leave for another tool halfway through — and the rest of your week runs off the same material.

Stage 1

Your bank

Get your questions in once.

Import a PDF of the bank you already have, or snap photos of a test from your phone. Compose reads the questions, figures and answer key, then sorts them by unit, topic and thinking level. Your Library keeps the figures, packets and study guides your class already runs on in the same place. CSV always free.

Stage 2

Build

Describe the test, or build it by hand.

Type "40 questions, Units 1–3, mostly DOK 2–3, include the migration map" and Compose plans it. Or set a blueprint by unit and thinking level. Or pick every question yourself.

Stage 3

Versions

Make it uncopyable.

Up to eight versions matched in content and difficulty. Compose rewords a question in fresh language, then blind-answers it several times to prove the correct choice didn't move — if it can't prove it, your original stands word for word.

Stage 4

Print

Give every student what they need.

Accommodations, a home-language copy, scannable bubble sheets stamped with their version code, a copy-room packet with a distribution map, and a sub-ready packet for the day you're out.

Stage 5

Grade

Photograph the stack.

Compose reads each sheet, works out which version it is, and scores it against that version's verified key. No bubble machine, no pre-sorting. Anything smudged or blank gets flagged for you.

Stage 6

Reteach

Find out what didn't land.

Which question failed, which wrong answer lured them and what misconception that reveals, whether your versions were genuinely equally fair — and a fair retest built from the weak spots, or a practice worksheet on the same material that isn't just the answer key handed back.

And the rest of the week

The same units and the same question bank carry the work either side of test day. None of it starts from a blank prompt — that is the whole point.

Whatever today needs

The things teachers actually say the week of a test — and what Compose does about each.

Shuffling alone stopped working

Students compare answer letters between periods. Most tools only reorder, so the comparison still works.

  • • Every version covers the same units and the same difficulty — so it is fair.
  • • Compose rewords questions in fresh language and proves the correct choice never moved. If it can't prove it, your original stands word for word.
  • • Every packet ships with a fairness summary you can hand over if a grade is challenged.
  • • A cheat-resistance check flags which questions a chatbot could answer, and how to redesign them.

Structural integrity — no webcam, no lockdown browser, nothing installed on a student's machine.

No student names. Ever.

Bubble sheets carry a student number you match to your own roster — never a name. Photos of the stack are read once and never stored. When Compose reads a handwritten answer, it keeps only the right-or-wrong you confirm — never the handwriting, and never a transcription of it. Accommodation profiles save the accommodation, not the student. Compose has no roster, no gradebook, and nothing to leak. Your own questions, images, tests and keys stay in your private workspace, visible only to you.

Compose acts on the test, never on the student.

No webcam. No lockdown browser. No surveillance.

Where your money goes

Nearly all of a Pro subscription pays the AI that does the actual work — reading your PDFs page by page, rewording and re-proving every version, proofreading your bank, drafting sub days and lessons from your own material, and reading the written answers you photograph. Drafting a lesson is the most expensive thing Compose does. The free plan exists because your first import and your first fair test shouldn't cost anything.
